This is a shot Ella took in our neighbourhood. Now you probably ask yourselves where the heck we live. Although in this extract it looks really run down, the rest of Vaihingen is rather tidy and predictable. We're interested in knowing what you think about this subject and the look of it because this is something a bit different for us.

• I like it, specially the division of the surface in three distinct parts. But I believe the picture would be more interesting without the man in it.

• Or maybe the man is too "average". He doesn't have anything special about him, so he doesn't stand out in the image. That's what I'm musing about anyway.

• I can see the style you are going for and it's a style I've been wanting to explore myself. I think this image needs a little something to take it up a notch and make it a great image - possibly a contrast between sunlight and shadow as the sunlight is split by nearby buildings - or maybe the man as he is just entering or just exiting the image, as though we are just being introduced to him or have just missed something important. And finally, maybe something a little different from an eye-level perspective - something higher than 7ft or lower than 4ft. Anyway, like I said, this is also a style I'd like to start exploring. Great images in this style will, I think, take some very opportune timing.

• We knew this would make up for some controversy and mixed opinions ;) This is not a picture with an immediate 'wow' effect, but rather the contrary. Of course everyone is entitled to his own opinion and we appreciate any honest thoughts. Still we would like to explain our ideas and choices.
  
  We didn't choose to have the man in the picture as a graphical element, but more as a statement - 'people actually live around here'. The flat look was supposed to emphasize the sad atmosphere of the place.
