What is that, a bathtub? Roberto Amorim @ 2006-May-30 22:55
Jesus, that could be a casket, FFS!
You guys are sick :-B Roberto Amorim @ 2006-May-30 22:56
a great feeling on this one. i love it shane j montgomery @ 2006-May-31 01:32
Nice to see you, Ella. Excellent work; it feels like a vertical still out of a horror movie. Good work you two. Cheers, Brent Brent Vermilyea @ 2006-May-31 06:03
Hold your breath Ella. You are under water aren't you? Cool photo. Erik @ 2006-May-31 06:48
Ella, you look like you were frozen still in time... Very creepy, the color works quite nicely on it. christine @ 2006-May-31 08:04
This is really cool. Like the others said, it looks a little like a 'death photo' (no offense to Ella, of course!). Great work. Heath @ 2006-May-31 08:43
very dreaming soft portrait
fabrizio @ 2006-May-31 09:25
Great idea and brilliantly executed! Excellent processing, I love this shot! Kris @ 2006-May-31 09:30
It's creepy but cool. Michael @ 2006-May-31 09:32
Looks as if she is laying in a tub of water. Very interesting shot and love the tinting! Chris @ 2006-May-31 11:28
realy realy creepy... could have been your last shot!
or a forensic exhibit ... hello are you still there... Hans @ 2006-May-31 11:43
MAN! I'm inspired by this one. Ella always looks different in all the shots you put up of her. I'm hear trying to figure out what you must have done to achieve this. Nice one. Jide Alakija @ 2006-May-31 12:07
you should clean your lens ;)
...i need to get a bathtub now.... martin @ 2006-May-31 13:26
Cool photo I like the grain/noise, gives it a very classic feel. Matthew @ 2006-May-31 14:02
hat was mystisch, maerchenhaftes - schoen! xlt @ 2006-May-31 14:08
Fantastic shot! There's something wonderfully provocative about it in the slightly unnatural way Ella is posed. The red tones add a funky atmosphere to the photo, as well. Simply striking! Brandon @ 2006-May-31 17:25
Cool shot. It is creepy. Roger @ 2006-May-31 17:55
There was a tradition in the late 1800's to take pictures of the dead and place them in a book as a way to protect them. I find that this picture reminded me of that. So odd. I believe it is the use of the warm reddish brown and the vingette. Jazmin @ 2006-May-31 18:26
@Roberto: Some people are just easily shocked ;)
@Jide: It wasn't easy, she struggled a lot. But hey, what am I supposed to do when I need a 30 second exposure under water?
@Martin: The condensed water on the lensfilter is partially responsible for the soft look of the picture. We had sharper captures but then part of the feeling was lost.
@Jide again: Ok, it was only 0.5s exposure. And yes, Ella has many faces... ;)
@Jazmin: Now that you mentioned it we see the connection, but that wasn't the idea we had for this shot.
@Brandon and others: Yes, that was our intention! Not the morbid aspect, but the beauty and calm of this surreal scene. Shooting and processing it only slightly different would have emphasized a completely other aspect I think. Anyway, "creepy" is definitely more our kind of photography than "lovely" ;)
@Ella: Give'm some proof of life, will ya? Sebastian @ 2006-May-31 19:18
Fantastic shot. Very exiting. I must say that this was a great idea. I wonder if she was in the bathtub when the idea arose, or if you "went all the way" just to achieve this. thukai @ 2006-May-31 19:20
Nun denn....sie Ella wirkt entspannt und scheint das Wasser zu mögen. Die Tönung erinnert mich an einen alten Farbfilm....das macht das ganze zu einem echten Hingucker... Jens @ 2006-May-31 19:40
...i don't find it creepy at all. it's absolutely beautiful and mysterious. therese @ 2006-May-31 20:06
hehe, yeah that's a different kind of portrait :P are you under water there? It sure looks like you are. Something peaceful about the picture actually. Maybe it's because you look empty of air. Minna @ 2006-May-31 21:19
Relieved to see that an Ella has reappeared in print but, as with many faces, she may have many voices, too. This engagingly ambiguous pic has sure set imaginations alight . . so, an ace posting on that score. AG @ 2006-May-31 22:20
I didn't get shocked. Years of exposure to ERs and the Pain Series have left me callous. I just found this particular picture depressing and - shall I say it - bordering on distasteful Roberto Amorim @ 2006-June-1 01:31
I agree with Therese, this is one peaceful portrait. Like sleeping underwater. I've heard that drowning is a peaceful way to go... but I wouldn't want to test it out! That softness that you have created adds to the atmosphere. I could imagine a series of portraits like this. Wonderful stuff, guys. fotojo @ 2006-June-1 07:07

Grapf @ 2006-June-2 08:00
Beautiful.. I come to think about the cover of Twin Peaks. eterisk @ 2006-June-2 09:31
interesting idea .. superbly pulled off! so serene .. the colour is great
;) MrC @ 2006-June-12 07:11
Very good photo, she is under water I suspect. The colors makes it outstanding. moodaholic @ 2006-June-28 16:56
Very dreamy. Usually I don't like toned images, but this one works, I think. Great shot. And thanks for the comment on dvafoto.com (a while ago...) scott @ 2006-July-25 01:20
