Ella and I had the idea for this series while browsing the archives of pictures taken during the beginning of this blog. While we had more spectacular smoke shots, we chose to use the calmer shapes for this transition. We had fun discussing different possible interpretations, we bet you can come up with one, too ;)

I would also like to use this post to point once more to the GradientGrabber, a tool I wrote and finalized a while ago but that got overlooked due to our photoblogging hiatus. The purpose of this little program is to extract grading (toning) curves from existing images and save them in a Photoshop compatible format, allowing you to apply them to other images. The series above is an example of what can be done with these curves; each one of the pictures has been graded with a different one.Head over to the GradientGrabber page to check it out.

Taken on day five of our Transalp. The fact that this panorama was shot on a summer midday emphasizes the moody atmosphere. The air was filled with this tension before the storm and I was starting to fear we would not get away dry. Luckily, or maybe thanks to us speeding down hill, we escaped the rain. The location is the trail down from the Jochgrimm (passo Oclini) to Radein (Redano).
This concludes our Transalp series. Though we had one more day to go, neither the weather nor the landscape did invite much shooting. We reached Trento and stayed a few days before returning to Stuttgart by train. Looking back the Transalp was probably our most memorable undertaking of 2007. We hope to do it again some day :)
