This is the building of a large bank operating in Southern Germany. To us it is an example of how corporations try to appear as immaculate and sleek. Their buildings and the one of the hotel chains have become the temples of our time. In former times people went to churches and marvelled at their size and impressive interior. Today we stop and raise our heads to look at skyscrapers and stare in awe at enormous entrance halls.
Pertinent to this image we'd like to point you to a movie with a critical view on the way of the big corporations which drive our economy and society: "The Corporation".
We have been asked what our photographic influences are and we have to admit that we are totally addicted cineasts. So we concluded it might be a good idea to link to a movie once in a while that has impressed us or even influenced our photography, also in a broader sense, and/or provoked thought.
Cool shot with nice, muted tones. Otto K @ 2006-May-22 19:04
It is like the smoke coming out of a chimney from a house, which you look at from a distance. The only sign of life. Those two open windows: It is the same. Cool foto. Peter @ 2006-May-22 19:22
The two open windows kinda make the statement : ???We will precisely show what we want to show and nothing more???. A very tightly controlled and managed image which neatly matches up with your observations. AG @ 2006-May-22 20:19
Die Idee gefällt mir sehr...man hat auch einen schönen Helligkeitsverlauf in der Reflektion auf der Scheibe....aber irgendwas fehlt mir....aber ich weiss nicht was.... Jens @ 2006-May-22 21:21
the day the start building skyscrapes here, I'll move. some buildings appear so dull yet so fascinating, if you look at them from this pow. interesting how those 2 windows were open when you took the picture :) Minna @ 2006-May-22 21:42
someone left their window open!! great angle on this image! cheers :) david kleinert @ 2006-May-23 08:30
Perfectly aligned, and humorous with the two open windows - it's as if you asked for those windows open! cat @ 2006-May-23 09:11
i appreciate both the photo and the sentiment behind it. good stuff. Jeremy @ 2006-May-23 23:47
excellent cropping/positioning ... love the lines & angles ... & the open windows obviously add so much to it ;) MrC @ 2006-May-24 12:43
Great perspective and I love the metalic feel that the reflection gives. I would have loved it equally without the open windows but they do add a certain something.

Nice composition. Reminds me there's a similar building around the corner from where I work which I meant to take a pic of someday... must get around to it this week maybe! Take it easy :-) David [mondaymorningphoto.com] @ 2006-May-29 12:40
a nice gradient across the windows, the 2 open really add some narrative shane j montgomery @ 2006-May-31 01:35
